Great Ways to Enjoy the Winter Months in New York

March 31, 2014

During the coldest months of the year, New York is one of the most beautiful places to visit. Although it is a popular vacation spot all year long, the winter months are a time when many tourists choose to visit. Whether you are visiting for the first time, stopping in for your annual vacation, or you live in New York year-round, there are many fun winter activities that are available for a low price or even free.

The entire state of New York is known for lots of snow during the winter. If the snow has piled up outside, bundle up and go play in the snow. Not only is this fun, you can also get exercise while building snowmen, having a snowball fight, or just walking around enjoying the beautiful wintry scenery.

Ice skating is another great pastime that can be enjoyed during the winter months in New York. If you’re planning a visit to Central Park, Lasker Rink and Pool allows you to visit the park while also providing ice skating at affordable prices. Adults and children will enjoy gliding across the smooth surface of this rink, which also functions as a public swimming pool during the warmer months of the year.

You can also take advantage of many of the free attractions and landmarks that New York City has to offer all year long. When going in the winter, make sure to bundle up warmly. Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Central Park, are just a few of the most popular attractions that you can see for free throughout the city.

When you’re ready to warm up, sit by a fire in one of the many restaurants and bars found throughout New York. Whether you choose to indulge in an alcoholic beverage with friends or sip a hot cup of coffee or tea, you can enjoy staying warm while reading a book or magazine or chatting with your loved ones.

If you’re in the city to ring in the new year, don’t forget to go to Times Square in New York City for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve experience. Watch the ball drop with millions of other people from all over the world as you celebrate a new year. If you’d rather avoid the crowds, head to Prospect Park to view an amazing fireworks display.

No matter what you do in New York during the winter, make sure that you stay warm in the freezing temperatures. In addition to doing many of the most popular activities around New York, you can also set off on your own to find new and exciting adventures that will make your winter truly unforgettable.
